Formation 480-961-0847 Are you confused by the many options available for the religious formation of your children and teens at St. Benedict’s? Some families feel overwhelmed by our many options. Because of the dynamic volunteer base at St. Benedict’s, we are able to offer a larger mix of ministries than some parishes twice our size! Take a look at the descriptions below and decide what opportunities best meet the needs of your family. The following ministries are guided by Suzie Malloy, our Children's Formation Coordinator who will be able to respond to any comments or questions you may have. She can inform you about registration for each of the following ministries. St. Benedict’s Christian Formation number is (480) 961-0847. Ministries with Children of Pre-school thru Grade 5 Ages: Children’s Liturgy of the Word (CLOW) - Our youngest children are welcome to gather for the Liturgy of the Word with our catechists during the 9:00 Sunday Mass from September thru June 1st. The children experience God’s Word through listening, song, and discussion. They learn to apply the Lord’s messages to their daily lives. We have an excellent team of volunteers who facilitate this weekly experience. New volunteers are always welcome! Call our office. Christian Formation - Our catechists’ goals are to reflect upon the Word of God with the children to gain a more personal relationship with Jesus. We aim to build Christian community, weave doctrines and traditions into our gospel themes, and encourage family service in the way of Jesus Christ. Kids4Christ - This program provides religious formation opportunities for ages preschool through grade 5 on Tuesday evenings from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. Children are engaged though videos, stories, Scripture, prayer and reflections combined with various teaching methods to learn more about their faith and to experience community. calendar Ministries with Adults and Families : Family Journey - All families who wish to grow in their faith as a family unit are welcome to join this community on Tuesday evenings. The catechesis and goals are similar to Christian Formation, but include the opportunity for adults to enjoy learning and sharing a variety of topics related to our Catholic Faith at the same time that their children and teens attend. All adult parishioners are welcome to join the adult group any time. The topics and speakers are published in the bulletin. We are fortunate to have a team of adult parishioners who rotate with presentations. Families find it easy to come at the same time, rather than bringing children/teens for different sessions, several times a week. We act as support families for those in the initiation process who also attend Family Journey. Family Journey is a healthy community, within which children, young adults or older adults can prepare for sacraments. Initiation Community - All families with children and/or teens who wish to become members of or return to the Catholic Church are welcomed into this community. Both adults and children along with their families, attend Family Journey (described above) to learn about our faith and discern their particular needs on their spiritual journey. Companion families who are not in the initiation process act as sponsors who pray with and encourage those in our initiation community. New families are welcomed into parish community, prayer, discernment and preparation for Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist. Catechists guide them during the dismissal time at each Sunday 9:00 a.m. Mass, beginning at the end of November, that they may learn to understand and treasure the Word of God. Adults and children of our initiation community are the most important sign of the conversion to which the Lord calls each of us. May each of us take the journey of faith growth and change seriously. Parishioners are invited to encourage and pray for all in our initiation community and to welcome others. A team of catechists, under the gifted leadership of Diane Orban, guide the adults on this special journey. Catechesis of the Good Shepherd or Atrium - Although Atrium doesn't meet with the other groups on Tuesdays, it is an important part of our Family Journey experience.
