Safe Environment

As St. Benedict instructs us, “Let all guests who arrive be received as Christ…and let due honor be shown to all.”

The Safe Environment Ministry at the Parish of St. Benedict supports this call to receive all as Christ and honor them with sensitivity and compassion. Through mandated training from the Diocese of Phoenix, this proactive program raises awareness of the need and ways to protect people of all ages, especially children, from physical, mental and verbal abuse.

All volunteers must receive training and update their training certification at least every two years; those volunteers who work with youth or are employees of the Diocese must update their certification every year. Age-appropriate programs also are provided to elementary, middle and high school students.

The Diocese constantly works to keep the program updated with new training materials, and also offers online training programs. These programs not only fulfill the diocesan requirements, but provide essential and helpful information to families and children.

People can sign up for training through the Diocese of Phoenix website (www.diocesephoenix.org) and clicking on Safe Environment, or they can phone the parish office for assistance in registering.
