The gift of human life is the most sacred of all gifts we have been given. One of the many ways we can show our respect for this gift is how we celebrate it in both life and death. The celebration of the death of a loved one is an important experience of Christian life and how we can show our respect for the dignity of the human person.

As Christians our lives are guided by St. Paul’s words to the Romans:

“We who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death. We were indeed buried with him through baptism into death, so that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might live in newness of life.”

This is the core of our faith. Because of our relationship to Christ, new life comes through death.
