Tuition Tax Credit – Catholic Education Arizona

Catholic Education Arizona (CEA) was established as the Catholic Tuition Organization of the Diocese of Phoenix (CTODP) in 1998, thanks to the Arizona Tuition Tax Credit, and is a non-profit organization under the 501(c)(3) IRS tax code. They are committed to allocating at least 93% of the annual revenues for scholarships and grants to children attending the schools owned and operated by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Phoenix, even though the law only requires 90% be allocated.
From their first year of operations in 1998, the generosity of local contributors have allowed them to continually increase funding to local Catholic schools, awarding scholarships to students with the greatest need, who wish to choose Catholic education.
The majority of the scholarships awarded to St. John Bosco students are funded through the Catholic Tuition Organization of Phoenix. This school year CEA awarded $300,402.00 in scholarships to 131 St. John Bosco students.
How does the Tuition Tax Credit work?
A.R.S. AZ 43-1089 provides for a credit of up to $1000 against state income tax obligations to any Arizona taxpayer for payments made to a qualified school tuition organization that provides scholarships or grants to students in qualified private schools. Since the credit is dollar-for-dollar, giving to Catholic Education Arizona will cost you absolutely nothing. In addition to the state tax credit, taxpayers may also qualify for an additional tax benefit on their federal returns for contributions made before December 31st of each year.
Taking the Credit
Giving the gift of a Catholic education to students at St. John Bosco couldn’t be any easier and it will cost you nothing. By re-directing a portion of your Arizona state taxes to CEA and designating St. John Bosco Catholic School (school code 211) on, or before, April 15, your tax dollars will have a direct and positive impact on the students and families at St. John Bosco in the form of scholarships. Brochures and contribution forms are available in the school’s front office and in the parish lobby.
