Thank You

10-11-2021Weekly Flocknote MessageFr. James Aboyi, V.C.

I thank everyone for their participation in our Parish Information Meeting held on Monday, September 27. My special thanks to the leaders and members of the Building Committee, Building Fund Committee, Finance Council and Parish Staff who helped to organize the meeting. The questions, suggestions, and feedback we received during and after the meeting were very helpful. Please give us a call in the parish office (480.961.1610) or send an email to office@stbenedict.org if you have any additional questions, suggestions or need a clarification.

Here are the highlights of the meeting:

  • Despite the COVID challenges, the team continued to move forward on the building project.
  • On August 18, we received approval from the City of Phoenix to continue to the final approval phase and permits.
  • The Architect is completing the construction documents.
  • We should receive the Diocese approval to proceed to construction by mid-October.
  • We will be obtaining bids and final cost in October.
  • The ceremonial groundbreaking with Bishop Olmsted will be on Saturday, November 6 at 10 am. All are welcome to attend. It will also be live-streamed. Construction will begin shortly thereafter depending on permits.
  • The closing Mass in the current Church will be at 7 pm on the Solemnity of All Souls Day/Mass of Remembrance, November 2. We will transfer the Blessed Sacrament, with a procession from the Church to the St. John Bosco Chapel at the end of the Mass.
  • All weekend Masses will take place in the St. John Bosco Multi-purpose Room (MPR) beginning November 6 until we return to the new Church, hopefully by December 2022.
  • Beginning on the first Sunday in November, we will have an additional Sunday Mass at 7 am in the MPR.
  • Daily Mass will be held in Annex 2 beginning on November 3.
  • Weekly Confessions will be held in Annex 1.
  • St. Vincent de Paul Pantry has been relocated to Annex 4.
  • The parish office will remain in the same place.
  • The staff may work from home in some selected weeks during the construction.

Again, I thank everyone for your prayers and financial support that has made it possible for us to come to this historical moment in our parish community. Let us continue to pray that God will continue to provide for us and guide us through every step of the building process.

Scam Alert

It was brought to my attention that some parishioners are receiving emails and text messages claiming to be from Deacon Ed Winkelbauer and myself requesting favors.  Please be warned that these are phishing scams. Please delete such messages immediately and notify the parish office. Neither Deacon Ed nor I would ever send an email or text, or even a phone call, asking for a personal favor from you. When it rings warning bells, or when in doubt, always carefully check the email address and photo profile of the sender before you respond. Please, never send a gift card, money or any requested gift to anyone claiming to be me, no matter how urgent it appears. It is important that you call the parish office to notify us even after you delete the message. Unfortunately, we have no way to restrict or stop these fraudulent emails or texts. I pray these criminals will repent of their crimes before they face their last judgment of God.

Please Note!

I will be going on a two-week break. Weekend Memo will resume on Friday, October 22.

Have a wonderful week and remain blessed!

Fr James Aboyi,
VC Pastor
