Liturgy of the Word with Children

During the 9 am Mass, children in grades K-3 are invited to gather together after the opening prayer to hear the readings at their level. Together, with a Catechist, they discuss the Word of God, rejoining the community during the Profession of Faith.

Liturgy of the Word with Children serves those in Kindergarten through 3rd grade who have not yet received their First Holy Communion. It takes place most Sundays during the 9:00am Mass. This special time is an amazing opportunity to engage young hearts and minds during Mass as the children are invited to hear God’s Word and participate in the Liturgy in a way they can more easily understand.

Children gather in the Meeting Room in the back of the Church, and return to their families following the homily. No fee or registration is required, however parents are always invited to attend with their children or volunteer as a Catechist or Aide.

CLOW Update

Due to the pandemic, Liturgy of the Word for Children will not begin as usual in September. We hope to resume this ministry soon! Although having the children gather at the 9:00am Mass is on hold, families are still encouraged to spend time together each week reading the Scripture for Sunday's Mass. Set a time, light a candle and begin together in prayer. Spend time after each reading letting children talk about words or images that stood out to them. Often in listening to our children's responses, we find a renewed sense of faith within ourselves. For daily readings, visit usccb.org.

Schedule

Liturgy of the Word with Children is held most Sundays during the school year from September through May. Please check the parish calendar for specific dates.

Volunteering

Are you looking for a rewarding way to share your faith with the children of our parish?

Liturgy of the Word with Children occurs during the 9:00 am Mass and is designed for children in grades Kindergarten through 3rd grade who have not yet received their First Holy Communion. Volunteer Catechists and Aides are needed to lead the children through the Readings and prayers. Many times it is the volunteers who find their faith strengthened or renewed from this ministry as the children bring enthusiasm and joyful insight into the Word of God.

Volunteer Catechists and Aides are able to set their own schedule, selecting the Sundays they are available. On average, the commitment requires one Sunday a month.

If you would like to be part of this rewarding ministry, please contact our Children’s Faith Formation Coordinator, Heather Mooney.
